How It Works

Develop the one-timer shooting technique by practicing cross-ice pass receptions and immediate power shots on a live goalie.

What You Need
hockey stickpuckneticegoalie
Mindset Rep
Commitment Cue

Pick the cue that tells you when to go. Say it quietly before the rep starts.

Your Focus

The one-timer is hockey's most powerful and hardest-to-save shot — it eliminates the goalie's read time and generates the most force of any shooting technique.

1
Set Up

You positions at the back of the face-off circle; passer is at the opposite face-off dot.

2
Run The Rep
A.
Passer delivers a crisp cross-ice pass; player reads the pass and times their swing for a one-timer.
B.
You must not stop the puck, redirect directly into the shot.
3
Check It

Sync your swing to the pass arrival, not to your own timing

Goal

You've got it when your one-timer makes a solid thump and goes on net, not a scoop, not a mishit, a real shot the goalie has to stop.

Helpful Cues
Sync your swing to the pass arrival, not to your own timingOpen your hips to the puck source, do not be square to the netHard, flat puck in means hard, flat shot out
UPLVL IT

Add a penalty killer who rushes the shooter from the point, requiring faster release and shot decision.

UpLVL Assessment
6 session notes and 8 skills interpreted for Mason's development
UpLVL
Mason looked more connected shift to shift, and Skating and Puck Handling are starting to show up in the moments that matter. Those strengths are giving Mason more control in games, which is helping her skate into better positions, make stronger reads, and execute more reliably under pressure. Mason is in the competitive range, with Skating is leading the way. Because Mason has been moving in the right direction, the next push is Shooting and Defense, especially as the pace rises and decisions have to happen faster. If that work keeps moving toward the current strengths, Mason's game should feel more complete, more balanced, and more repeatable from one session to the next. That next step should also keep decision-making in view, so the work reflects what is showing up in play as well as the ratings.
Guide
How To Read The Ratings

Each skill gets a 1-10 rating that maps to a milestone, helping track skill development and player growth over time.

Skill Milestones

Milestones show progress in a specific skill. Players usually move through milestones with age, practice, and better game understanding.

Overall Development Stage

Stages describe the player's broader development level. They are based on the overall rating, which averages the skill ratings in the report.

A player can be at different milestones in different skills while still having one overall stage for the report. The value is seeing what changed from one evaluation to the next.

Hover or tap any stage or milestone below for the parent-facing meaning.

Latest Session Note
Coach BlakeMar 31
Rating 7.8
Mason looked more connected shift to shift. Skating and Puck Handling were the clearest separators in this session and created more control in the game. The next push is Shooting and Defense so that level holds when the pace lifts, the decisions get tighter, and the game becomes less forgiving.
