How It Works

Train players to read the block and decide in real-time whether to hit hard or tip over/around blockers.

What You Need
volleyballnetcones for targets
Mindset Rep
Lock-In Rep

Pick one detail to watch before the rep starts. Run the rep without adding a second focus.

Your Focus

Smart attackers use the tip not just as a softer option but as a tactical weapon against poor block positioning.

1
Set Up

Set up one or two cone targets deep in the court and two targets close to the net in open areas.

2
Run The Rep
A.
A blocker (or coach holding a foam blocker paddle) stands at the net.
B.
You runs a full approach and jumps. At the peak, the blocker either presents a full block (player should tip) or deliberately leaves a hole (player should hit hard).
C.
You reads the cue in the air and executes the appropriate shot, aiming for corresponding targets.
3
Check It

See the block before you swing

Goal

Success is making the right choice 4 out of 5 times, when you tip and the blocker closes, or swing when they don't, that's reading, not guessing.

Helpful Cues
See the block before you swingTip with fingertip control, don't push with the palmHard swing when the seam is open
UPLVL IT

Add a second blocker; player must find the seam or tip off the blocker's hands.

UpLVL Assessment
6 session notes and 4 skills interpreted for Ella's development
UpLVL
Ella looked more composed in the flow of play, and Passing and Defense are starting to show up in the moments that matter. Those strengths are giving Ella more control in games, which is helping her play with more control, better timing, and more reliable execution in live situations. Ella is in the competitive range, with Passing is leading the way. Because Ella has been moving in the right direction, the next push is Attacking and Serving, especially as the pace rises and decisions have to happen faster. If that work keeps moving toward the current strengths, Ella's game should feel more complete, more balanced, and more repeatable from one session to the next. That next step should also keep decision-making in view, so the work reflects what is showing up in play as well as the ratings.
Guide
How To Read The Ratings

Each skill gets a 1-10 rating that maps to a milestone, helping track skill development and player growth over time.

Skill Milestones

Milestones show progress in a specific skill. Players usually move through milestones with age, practice, and better game understanding.

Overall Development Stage

Stages describe the player's broader development level. They are based on the overall rating, which averages the skill ratings in the report.

A player can be at different milestones in different skills while still having one overall stage for the report. The value is seeing what changed from one evaluation to the next.

Hover or tap any stage or milestone below for the parent-facing meaning.

Latest Session Note
Coach MorganMar 31
Rating 7.4
Ella looked more composed in the flow of play. Passing and Defense were the clearest separators in this session and created more control in the game. The next push is Attacking and Serving so that level holds when the pace lifts, the decisions get tighter, and the game becomes less forgiving.
